Herod is Parfums de Marly's homage to the legendary English thoroughbred racehorse of the same name, who lived from 1758 to 1780 and was a direct descendant of Byerley Turk. Rich, spicy notes of cinnamon and laurel from the victor's wreath adorn the composition's graceful top note. A skillfully constructed interplay of osmanthus blossoms, tobacco leaves, subtle frankincense, and labdanum reveals a fruity heart. One cannot help but think of the muscles flexing beneath the lustrous coat of the noble animal, as the base notes of tart vanilla bean and pale cedarwood meet a mesh of vetiver, patchouli, nagarmotha, and musk.
